This weekend I found myself talking about ghosts with a friend (the topic came up in our discussion of Art Bell, RIP). I have been hearing murmurings recently about a new theory of the paranormal, which is as intriguing as it is unproveable.
According to this theory, small wormholes are opening and collapsing all the time, all around us. These wormholes connect different parts of the world, different time periods, or even different universes. These brief, fragile connections go unnoticed most of the time.
Until you're standing in the dark, listening intently.
If you are open to it, and paying attention, you may be lucky enough to hear a wormhole carry sounds or even sudden drafts from the other end of the wormhole. Items may appear or disappear, or be nudged slightly. And then the wormhole vanishes again without a trace, and the sound is gone.
This fascinating theory is at least as plausible as any other theory humans have devised to explain the unexpected sounds in the night. What do you think?
