Hold Up, Underwater Ghost Village

This really isn't a good time...

Between the Coronavirus, Australian fires, rise of fascism, police brutality, murder hornets, radioactive fires and alien admission, many people are using levity to cope with 2020. One example on social media is the "BINGO card" of disasters everyone jokes about having. Well, does anyone have the rising of the Underwater Ghost Village in Italy on their card?

It's cool that we'll be able to see this creeptastic marvel once the waters recede but, as one Twitter user admonished, "Not now, Underwater Ghost Village frozen in time." We've had quite enough and it's only June, after all. Perhaps wait until October?

The Gates of Hell

Also known as the Darvaza Gas Crater

There's a hole in Turkmenistan that's been on fire for almost five decades. "The Gates of Hell," as it's known, opened when Soviet drills accidentally hit an underground gas chamber, resulting in a fiery pit of death that truly looks like Hades--at least, to some people.

But how did it get to be so fiery? Those in charge of the disaster thought if they set it on fire it would stop burning eventually and settle down. Instead, they created this hellish chasm from which there's pretty much no escape.

Gorgeous Hidden Glacier Discovered

Photographer finds Himalayan wonder

Drones may do some terrible things when in the hands of people who would abuse them, but they also do some absolutely incredible things, like take photos of places we never even knew existed. A photographer used a drone to take photos of the Himalayas, for example, and found this incredible glacier in the process.

Check out the photos for yourself to see how breathtaking this discovery truly is, but also wonder--what else is there on this planet that none of us have ever seen that might be just as mesmerizing? There are plenty of nooks and crannies where humans can't venture at all (I am most curious about the deep ocean!) and there are many things left that we might someday see!

What incredible drone footage have you seen lately? Share it in the chat.

Ozone Hole Over the Arctic Closes

Because some freaky news is good news

Have you heard that the ozone hole over the Arctic has closed up? It's definitely a reason to celebrate during times when we often don't feel as if there's much joy to go around. It was the largest hole to have opened up, but it closed just as fast as it appeared, leaving scientists to wonder just what's going on.

We can't blame the coronavirus for this joyous occasion, but the intense polar vortex that occurred. It would be interesting if this led to some ideas about repairing the ozone in other ways, but it sounds like it's something that occurs every decade as part of a natural phenomenon.

Cool Underwater Hotels

Would you stay at any of these?

Right now, many of us are living vicariously through our computers, especially when it comes to travel. That's why it's so great to find so many weird and even creepy places around the world to check out online. Some are even giving tours that you can take from home, which is a fantastic way to experience travel when you can't actually leave your house much.

These underwater hotels are an incredible example. If you've ever wanted to pretend you're a mermaid living under the sea, this is probably the closest you'll be able to come to the experience! Check out the different hotels and what they offer. Each has its own unique take on the underwater experience, but they also have their own unique takes. They're also in different places across the globe, so your bucket list would get pretty far-reaching if you wanted to stay at each one.

Would you stay at one of these hotels, or would it be too scary?

UFOs are Real

But what else is new?

When the Pentagon finally released footage that conceded the existence of UFOs, many citizens weren't impressed. Not only is this old news for many of us who know there's no way we could be the only intelligent life in existence, but it was also some pretty terrible footage. Many of us think they have some better, juicier footage stored in some fault.

And while it seems fitting that UFOs might be confirmed in the same year that murder hornets, a global pandemic and a bunch of other weird things are ravaging our planet, many believe it was released simply as a distraction in the first place.

What do you think of the news? Do you think Trump will want to do anything about it (maybe involve Space Force)? Share your predictions and reactions in the chat.

Zoom Messages Aren't Private

Keep this in mind when you're video conferencing!

By now, hopefully everyone knows that when you're video conferencing, you can be seen by everyone on the call, so you don't want to take them with you to the bathroom. But some people are learning the hard way that there are other privacy issues with the app.

This student discovered that the chats she thought were private were visible by her professor, who then requested that she stop sending disruptive messages about said professor in the chat. It would be very embarrassing for a teacher to discover that you had been calling them names during lectures, but why do it in the first place?

Cursed Images

What makes them cursed?

My teenager and their friends are all going on about cursed images, which are nothing new; they've been around for a few years and have even become memes in the process. But I can't get any of them to actually describe what makes them so "cursed."

Some say that the "curse" is really just a creepy or uneasy feeling you get while looking at an image of, say, a shadow beneath a bunch of people swimming. Honestly after looking at a lot of "cursed images," I don't see what others see in many of them, and in others, they might as well be either awkward family photos or even photoshopped.

Have you put a lot of thought into what goes into a cursed image? What do you think it really means, and what truly qualifies for this freaky Internet phenomenon?

Your State's Cryptid Creatures

Do you know what they are?

The other day I saw a post being shared of all of the different cryptids in the United States and couldn't believe my eyes. There are so many supposed monsters! Most states have at least one legend of their own. They might as well have their own trading cards.

Then I saw this map of the monsters many states are famous for and wondered if everyone is familiar with their state's monsters. I've at least heard of mine, for example, but I really don't know much about it. I know more about, say, Mothman and Chupacabra than my own state's beast.

How about you? What is your state's cryptid, and do you know any stories about it?
